The Lincolnshire estates came into the Bristol family in 1688 with the marriage of John Hervey, 1st Earl of Bristol to Isabella Carre, heiress and only daughter of Sir Robert Carre Bt of Sleaford. The Carre family had acquired the Lincolnshire estate in the early 1500’s after purchasing them from the Crown; the previous owner, John Hussey, 1st Baron Hussey of Sleaford was executed for treason.

The estate has always been centred around the town of Sleaford, but has also included holdings in Quarrington, Holdingham, Great Hale, Little Hale, North Rauceby, South Rauceby, Kirkby La Thorpe, Anwick, Brauncewell, Dunsby, Roxholne, and Asgarby.

Throughout the centuries the Bristol family have been involved with the development of Sleaford, its infrastructure, and that of the surrounding villages. This also includes founding and supporting a number of schools in Sleaford and the surrounding villages. The recreation ground in the centre of Sleaford was also conveyed by Bristol Estates to the Town on favourable terms in the 1960s.
